On the outskirts of Barcelona sits a 1000sqm, 2 floored warehouse, currently stocked with uniforms, ready for the European Market.
Alsico made the decision earlier this year, to create a European hub for one of its largest customers, TUI, who are UK-based but service wearers across the globe at any holiday resort you can think of. Brexit had a major impact on Alsico’s effectiveness to service the European market due to the introduction of additional duty taxes and custom delays and this new warehouse allows products to be imported directly, packed and dispatched in a far more effective manner.
"We wanted to ensure that the impact of Brexit on our customers was minimised as much as we could control and, as such, we looked to work with our largest European based customer, TUI, to find a solution that would eliminate clearance delays and additional duty costs involved with exporting 3rd country products from the UK. The other aspect was to offer a more cost effective distribution solution taking into account the destination delivery points."
An extension to the UK warehouse, using the same systems and processes as the UK meant a thorough and efficient integration plan was put in place to move the service without any disruption. This included the shipping of over 100,000 items from their Preston based Warehouse across to Spain in a two week period.
The opening of the Barcelona warehouse has also offered a benefit to the local economy and now has 10 local based staff working in shifts to get Alsico Workwear out to all over the world.
Warehouse Manager Jordi Rovira states he is "pleased to have joined such a strong and growing company and hopes that the opening of this new warehouse will offer expansion plans for Alsico and benefits to all their European based customers."
"After more than 25 years working in the field of logistics, to be able to start a project from scratch, together with one of the most important companies in the world in its sector, Alsico, is not only a source of pride but also a challenge as exciting as it is demanding.
From the logistics centre in Barcelona, we want to contribute our experience and knowledge to Alsico, to be able to grow in the market quickly and steadily without forgetting the main ethical and personal values on which the company is based."
Following the success of the TUI distribution transition, Alsico now has a firm base where they can offer flexibility without compromise for its European delivery routes and customers.
