Protection against welding spatter, heat & flame

This range of garments is designed to protect the wearer against welding spatter (small splashes of molten metal), short contact time with flame and radiant heat from the arc.

Scope of protection

These garments minimise the possibility of electrical shock by short term, accidental contact with live electric conductors at voltages up to approximately 100V DC in normal conditions of welding.

The garments will also protect against processes that have similar levels of risk such as cutting, grinding, arc air gouging and spraying.

Please note that during the welding operation, we would always recommend the use of primary PPE such as a protective apron, gauntlets etc. The welding garments should always be regarded as secondary protection.

European Standard

European Standard EN ISO 11611: 2007 has been introduced to supercede EN 470-1. Alsico has upgraded the Farlane range of specialist welders’ clothing to comply with the requirements of the new standard.

The new standard contains two classes with specific performance requirements.
Class 1 is the lower level / Class 2 is the higher level

Class 1

Manual welding techniques with light formation of spatter and drops eg: Operating machines eg:
  • Gas welding
  • TIG welding
  • MIG welding
  • Micro plasma welding
  • Brazing
  • Spot welding
  • MMA welding (with rutile covered electrode)
  • Oxygen cutting
  • Plasma cutting
  • Resistance welding
  • Thermal spraying
  • Bench welding

Class 2

Manual welding techniques with heavy formation of spatter and drops eg: Operating machines eg:
  • MMA welding (with basic or cellulose covered electrode)
  • MAG welding (with CO2 or mix gas)
  • MIG welding (with high current)
  • Self-shielded flux cored arc welding
  • Plasma cutting
  • Gouging
  • Oxygen cutting
  • Thermal spraying
  • Working in confined spaces
  • Overhead welding and cutting
  • Other constrained positions
